Transmitters

All Sonotronics transmitters utilize unique aural codes. This allows for thousands of uniquely identifiable transmitters. Frequency, code, and interval time between pings are all identifiers. Sonotronics has four categories of transmitters: Coded transmitters, depth telemetry transmitters, temperature telemetry transmitters, and equipment marker transmitters. Transmitters are limited by fundamental trade-offs between lifetime, size, and range. Coded Transmitters

Coded transmitters, like all Sonotronics transmitters, have a unique sequence of pings so that the researcher may identify them aurally. Coded transmitters have a fixed interval time-(the time between the pings). All models of Sonotronics receivers have the ability to measure this time and display it to the millisecond. This in itself is a unique identifier for each transmitter, and is utilized by Sonotronics fixed stations to detect and record fish passage.

Notes

1. The typical rule of thumb is to use transmitters that have a weight in water that is 1.5 - 2% of the fish weight in air. Weight in O2 (air) is put only as additional reference.
2. -E is the extension denoting external mount, -I denotes internal implant. You must specify internal or external when ordering transmitters.
3. As of 10/2005, the CT-82-3 transmitter has been discontinued, to be replaced by both CT-05-36 and CT-05-48, depending upon the desired lifetime. The CT-05-36 has identical weight and dimensions as the CT-82-3, but offers a 36 month lifetime.
