Model DH-4 directional hydrophone

The DH-4 provides the greatest range and precision in locating transmitters from 30kHz to 100kHz. The parabolic reflector provide 16db of gain over a comparable omnidirectional hydrophone, and yields a calculated DI of nearly 25db, reducing the effect of environmental noise. The DH-4 is the primary hydrophone for manual/active tracking.

Model TH-2 towed omnidirectional hydrophone

The TH-2 provides a simple method for mobile active tracking: its small size and hydrodynamic shape allows for trolling at speeds up to 5 knots, while the long cable length minimizes the affect of engine and prop noise. Eyelets allow attachment of small weights or diving lures to ensure the hydrophone is kept at depth while trolling. This design, though simple, rivals more elaborate and expensive systems in actual field trials.

Model SH-1 omnidirectional hydrophone

High gain omnidirectional hydrophone: the wide bandwidth of this transducer allows for quick detection of ultrasonic transmitters, or listening to audio using the HPR95 amplifier. The SH-1 is typically lowered into the water while stationary, or moving slowly: it may be attached to a ‘wing’ for towed applications (see TH-VFIN).

TH-VFIN Towed Hydrophone Package

The TH-VFIN is a towed hydrophone package including a VFIN diving wing, 100 feet of kevlar coaxial cable, and a special grip for alleviating stress on the cable, and SH-1 hydrophone. The diving wing is manufactured in conjunction with ENDECO/YSI.

The hydrophone is mounted to the belly of the diving wing, minimizing noise generated by water flow. The wing allows for searching of animals or equipment marked with pingers at speeds up to 10 knots, greatly minimize manpower costs and time in searching larger areas.

The depth of the wing is controlled by cable length and tow speed.
